Getting Around
Coastal Tram (Kusttram)
The coastal tram (Line 0, operated by De Lijn) is the longest tram line in the world, running the entire length of the Belgian coast from De Panne to Knokke-Heist. It is a fantastic way to explore neighbouring towns without a car.
Key stops near Blankenberge:
- Wenduine (west) — quiet beach, dunes
- De Haan (west) — art nouveau architecture, Albert Einstein once lived here
- Bredene (east) — only Belgian beach with no sea dike
- Ostend (east) — larger city, museums, marina
- Middelkerke, Nieuwpoort, Koksijde (further west)
- Knokke-Heist (east) — upscale shopping and beach
A day pass is excellent value if you plan multiple stops. More info: blankenberge.com/coastal-tram
On Foot & By Bike
Blankenberge town centre, beach, and Zeedijk are all walkable. The coastal cycle path (fietsostrade) runs behind the sea dike and is flat, scenic, and well-maintained. Bikes can be rented locally or via Vespa2Rent for scooters.
